Just hearing the name Caño Negro, or Black Water Creek in creole English, conjures up images of a lost jungle river with wildlife swinging from the canopy. The creek is in fact just that, a wild branch of the river not far from Bluefields that offers one of the best opportunities to see animals in their natural habitat. Sloths, monkeys, crocodiles and the ever-elusive leopards have all been seen while touring the creek. Caño Negro is also locally famous for being one of the best fishing spots in the area and bringing a pole is always an option.
In Bluefields we will take a walking tour through some of the oldest neighborhoods, visit the church and the central park which is guarded by centuries-old Mahogany trees. We will visit the museum of the coast, meet some of the locals and have a traditional costeña lunch at a local restaurant.
